Search for our Partner holiday rentals in Andalucia RUBITE - With a population of about 40, Rubite is one of the smaller villages in the Axarquia region of Andalucia. With an altitude of 400 metres, Rubite is located 42 kilometres to the east of Malaga and 16 kilometres from the coast. La Maroma, the highest peak in the Sierra Tejeda mountain range, shelters the village and is occasionally snow capped in winter. The Sierra is a nature reserve with an abundance of wild plants and animal life. The surrounding countryside provides everything from a country stroll to a full day mountain hike. You can walk through ancient olive and lemon groves on old mule tracks which link traditional white villages. The only people you meet are occasional goat herders or farmers tending their vines. The more adventurous can tackle high mountain peaks accompanied by Griffon Vultures soaring overhead and be rewarded with stunning views of the Mediterranean and beyond to the Rif mountains of North Africa. There are numerous olive, almond and carob trees and for many months each year the hillside is a riot of colours and scents, thanks to the profusion of wild flowers and herbs. In January the hills are covered in pink and white clouds of fragrant almond blossoms and there are lavender, thyme, rosemary, poppies, wild orchids, corn-flowers and much more.
